The Hungarian government launched the “Új Széchenyi Terv” an economic development program on 15 January 2011. According to the consultative paper there are seven priority areas identified at the heart of the program which, in parallel with the Government's short-term crisis management program, collectively form the foundation of a long-term strategic plan.

The seven main areas are the following:

1. Health industry

2. Green economy
(renewables, geothermal energy, biotech R&D, etc.)
3. Home-building programme 

4. Development of the business environment

5. Science and innovation

6. Employment
